On May 1, hours after Mayor Karl Dean gave the annual State Of Metro Address, nearly 100 city employees and activists descended on the Davidson County Courthouse in downtown Nashville to rally in support of an employee raise and to talk to their council member about what they do every day to serve Nashville’s citizens.

"Amateur Politics From MNPS," Says Former Council Member

On his blog, former Metro Council member Jamie Hollin reveals that he is not happy with the "amateur politics" on display by MNPS H.R. Director June Keel when she wrote an opinion piece for The Tennessean on April 21. In addition to some misleading anti-union remarks, Keel also challenged the results of a poll done by the University of Tennessee which showed MNPS workers were angry and demoralized about the radical changes Dr. Register has made to the district's labor policy and the Employee Handbook.

What Register didn't expect was that when the station was supposed to go to a commercial, the microphones were still on and his candid comments were being broadcast over the airwaves!

Metro Council members voted by an overwhelming majority to urge the Metro School Board and its director Jesse Register to stop attacking the public employees who work in Metro Nashville Public Schools.

SEIU Local 205 members at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge demonstrated their solidarity by voting to ratify the extension of their contract, which was recommended by the union's bargaining committee.  The vote involved approval of the tentative agreement reached with Management on salary and health insurance articles, and left all other discussions off the table.
